A Fuller Life Through Achievement: Helen Keller

Helen Keller was born in Alabama,1880. At first, she was a healthy baby, but when she was 19 months,she had a terrible disease.Unfortunately, because of this disease, she lost her ability to see,hear and speak. Her mother searched a lot to find a solution for her daughter.At last, she found a tutor from Perkins Institute for  impaired people. Thanks to this tutor(Anne Sullivan), Helen Keller learnt reading, writing and speaking. Although she was deaf, blind and unable to speak,she never gave up. She continued her life with endless perseverance.She was the first deaf-blind  person to earn a Bachelor of Arts degree .She had roles  in different organizations which is working for impaired people.She devoted herself to blind people. She had a lot of difficulty and obstacle, but she achieved more things than a normal person did. In my opinion, She was very good example for people who give up easily. Her encourage and achievements must be seen as a lesson for all people. That's why  she should be known more. People should see her as a model for themselves. After I read her life story, I was really impressed. Despite of her blindness and deafness, she was able to learn five languages.Also, she could play chess. In addition she wrote many essays and books. Briefly, I think she Helen Keller should be recognized more due to her  accomplishments.

Reflection Task 1a

Hello, my name is Songül.I am 20 years old. I am studying Foreign Language Education at Metu.Being an English teacher is my dream because I love teaching. I am from Kastamonu.I live in countryside with my family.Therefore, I love nature,green,animals and organic food.My hobbies are reading, listening to music and going for a walk.  In my spare time I like spending time with my friends by chatting,wandering and playing games such as taboo and chess. I also like going to cinema and theatre. The moment I like most is that after the play or the film is over,criticizing the characters and plot.Apart from this I am interested in books.I like reading so much that I can read a book for hours without being bored. While I am reading I feel as if I was in another world. I like sharing my ideas and listening to what others think. A person's ideas are important for me. His or her nation, language and religion do not matter. I love meeting new people.This means to me that I discover a new world. His or her thoughts,values and dreams are  important for me. In addition, I am keen on sports. I like playing football most.Generally I play football with my brother and cousins.I have taken karate courses for several  months.It is a defence sport not an attack.It has really good techniques to defend yourself.It is enjoyable.That is all I have to say about myself.
