Revised : Reflection Task 3

 "ALLONS-Y!"
I have chosen David Tennant as a candidate for person of the year. He is a Scottish actor and was born in 1971. He became famous with his role of “The Doctor” in Doctor Who. As far as I know from his interviews, when he was a child, he grew up with watching the TV series: Doctor Who -mainly the fifth doctor- Peter Davison. Fortunately, in 2005, David became a member of Doctor Who family, and married to daughter of Peter Davison. They have one little daughter. Actually, this is a very sweet incident in itself.
With his Scottish accent and lovely companions, David is always seen as the best-loved and greatest doctor of all the time.  I think it is because of his both fragile and heroic personality.  When it comes to a tragic episode, he can incredibly give us the emotion of sadness. Likewise, when it comes to the funniest episode, he can give us the emotion of fun and joy with not only his words but also his body movements and mimics. Therefore, his quitting from Doctor Who is undoubtedly the most tragic event for his fans.
On the other hand, when he left the Doctor Who in 2010, he started to work for Royal Shakespeare Company. It is said that British people started to take interest in Shakespeare after David Tennant had interpreted his works of art. What I mean is, he is a great actor.
All in all, I have chosen him because so many people still love David Tennant because he is so effortlessly lovable. He charmed his way into the hearts of the nation with his youthful energetic portrayal of the ancient Time Lord. It is not something that we can say about most Doctor Who actors.

Art is everything. It is impossible to look anywhere in this world and not see an artist's creation or some aspect of art. It allows everybody to express himself or herself. Without art, the world would be without color, design, literature, music, poetry, dance, and everything.

One of the biggest deficiencies of Turkish is the importance not given art. Even in Ankara or Istanbul, the number of people who is in theatre is not more than the number of my fingers. Ataturk says “A nation without art has lost one of its lifelines.” He explicitly states the importance of art.

How much are we sensible towards the students who are prone to art? Actually, we accept music, theatre, poem, and dance as a waste of time. Today, in our schools, art classes are accepted as idle classes. In these lessons, students talk to each other, study other lessons like Math, Physics or Literature, surfs on the Internet. In short, they can do whatever they want except  the things related to art. In some schools, if you have crayons and drawing paper or block flute, the teacher will give you 100 points. I wonder why the lessons related to the left hemisphere of the brain are very valuable unlike the others like art or sport. I think the curriculum ignores the most significant thing: functions of art.

Art provides opportunities for self-expression, develops independence and collaboration. In this process, it improves academic achievement such as enhancing test scores, attitudes, social skills, critical and creative thinking etc.

The only language which is acceptable all around the world is “Descently", and the most important lesson of humanely education is ART.

Reflection Task 2b

Alexa Meade : Your body is my canvas

I would like to talk about Alexa Meade and her incredible art. You may want to ask about why I chose this subject. Here is the answer: Last year, one of my roommates made a presentation about unusual forms of art such as book-carving, egg-carving and “Alexa Meade as a painter”. I want to know more about the Alexa Meade, because I thought how a person can be an art on her own. Therefore, I googled her and this video can sum up all the things I wanted to know.
The extraordinary thing about Alexa Meade is she take a human as a 3 dimensional object, and turn him/her into a 2 dimensional painting.  When I saw her works at first sight, I thought they are absolutely Photoshop! She paint her works with acrylic, but not on canvas. Surprisingly, she paint it directly and physically on the top of the man. The person, the clothes, the chair, ears, mouth (except from the eyes) are painted in her works. Then she photographed them, and this is her “art”. This is just a brief information about her art.
In this video, you can gain more information about her. Actually I love the way of her telling us about her dream and passion in a funny and realistic way. I think Alexa’s painting is awesome. Maybe it is not a masterpiece, but it is innovative. It gives us a message that art does not simply belong to the artists. A student of political sciences can also create a painting, like Alexa Meade. I love that she is decided to give up her job and pursuit her dreams. There are so many people who can paint people- but actually just Alexa can paint people J
I love this art. It’s fresh and fascinating !

Reflection Task 1b

A Fuller Life Through Achievement: Helen Keller

Helen Keller was born in Alabama,1880. At first, she was a healthy baby, but when she was 19 months, she had a terrible disease.Unfortunately, because of this disease, she lost her ability to see, hear and speak. Her mother searched a lot to find a solution for her daughter. At last, she found a tutor from Perkins Institute for  impaired people. Thanks to this tutor(Anne Sullivan), Helen Keller learnt reading, writing and speaking. Although she was deaf, blind and unable to speak, she never gave up. She continued her life with endless perseverance. She was the first deaf-blind  person to earn a Bachelor of Arts degree .She had roles  in different organizations which is working for impaired people. She devoted herself to blind people. She had a lot of difficulty and obstacle, but she achieved more things than a normal person did. In my opinion, She was very good example for people who give up easily. Her encourage and achievements must be seen as a lesson for all people. That's why  she should be known more. People should see her as a model for themselves. After I read her life story, I was really impressed. Despite of her blindness and deafness, she was able to learn five languages. Also, she could play chess. In addition she wrote many essays and books. Briefly, I think she Helen Keller should be recognized more due to her  accomplishments.
